where I dump my scribbles
Hey there! I need some advice if you don't mind. So this girl in my school asked me to draw her a couple of her friends right? The thing is she is claiming that SHE drew them and she knows I know but I am too much of a door mat to tell anyone anyways. What should I do? Again I am sorry if this bothers you ; v ;

Heya! And not at all!

I can’t say I’ve (seriously) dealt with this sort of thing myself. But I can say that this could be fairly easy to deal with.

I would really recommend telling those that you have drawn that you were the one who made the pictures, rather than this girl. Show them any of your previous drawing, compare the style/quality, possibly even draw them again just to prove it. This could definitely be easier since it’d be in person.

But, as a (legitimately playful) joke, years ago, I had a friend take a sketch I made and tell folks that they drew it. Yet, ironically enough, those people that were told that immediately said, “Woah, really? Draw something else!”

We quickly cleared that up. :’D

Point in that being, if the friends of those girls happen to want drawings again on the spot, they may soon find out that she wasn’t the actual artist. And if that girl asks you again, do not be afraid to put your foot down and say no. Perhaps say that you’re busy or maybe even taking a break from drawing, but don’t keep that train going if you know that sort of thing is going on.

Others claiming your art right before your eyes can be sometimes be frightening to deal with, much less in person, but it is never okay. Don’t be afraid to defend your talent(s). You deserve your rightful credit.

I do hope this doesn’t escalate anymore than it already has. <3
