(Fairly long post up ahead!)
This may not be the best place to ask this at (given the comment/reply system on Tumblr), but I’m honestly curious to ask, numerous folks actually may have one; What is a Cintiq that you would recommend for someone to get?
(And I’m not necessarily looking into account of price compared to others! All are pretty costly, of course, and fairly worth it in my opinion, but I’m mainly looking for thoughts on performance, functionality, and possibly convenience.)
(Slight explanation of my dilemma below:)
For the past few months, my Companion has been acting up with it’s charger. The half of the cord that connects to the Cintiq itself has been insanely picky in charging. It will either identify that something is plugged or not. And when it is identified, it will say ‘not charging’, and I will have to position it in a very distinct place each and every time and I cannot move it at all or else it will stop again and likely not work as before.
I have ordered one new charged of the same model (from a maker in China that seems to be the only place to carry Cintiq’s specific model of charger for Companions) and a new power supply from Wacom’s website to see if there was any difference and it was simply the cord my Companion came with.
All of them are having this same issue.
(End of dilemma explanation!)
So… while it is charging eventually in any case, it seems it’s already time for me to invest in a new Cintiq soon. (And I’m hoping I can earn enough funds for one again by the end of this summer!)
I’ve heard recently that Wacom is (conveniently enough!) coming out with a Cintiq Companion 2, and I’m definitely interested in that. I much prefer the Companion for it’s mobility and lack of necessity to always be attached to some kind of stand. And if I hear any good reviews about it come out soon (particularly about the battery/charging issues), it will likely sell me over.
However, assuming it doesn’t/the Companion isn’t doable to get, I hear that the 13HD is actually a really good Cintiq. Reliable, not very large, but has great function to it. The one big thing that puts me off from getting this is that it apparently has to be connected to a computer just to turn on. And considering I tend to move/shift around during long drawing sessions, this couldn’t be very doable for me, haha!
The Cintiq 22HD touches also seem to work great for people. And these types of Cintiqs seem to be ones that folks in the industry use. However, the thing that put me off from this one as well is that the stand that comes with it is attached to the device, and cannot be taken off. And considering I don’t (yet) have an actual desk to work off of when I draw, this would be fairly problematic for me.
Other than all of that extra info, I’m just curious to hear to if anyone that has experience with using/owning a Cintiq could recommend one to me! Main one in mind to get is the Companion 2 (512 GB), but I also have 13HD and 22HD in my sub-thoughts. Who knows, could change my mind!
(And I am not interested in getting either a Companion Hybrid or a 27HD. I would much prefer to have an actual PC, rather than a tablet (plus, I use programs that are required to be on an actual computer, like SAI and Adobe Flash) and the 27HD is something I don’t essentially need, let alone have the space for. I would also prefer no recommendations for models older than the 13HD.
And I am aware of the alternatives people get out there. Yiynovas, Tablets that can actually hold PC programs, like Surface Pro, and other things. But I really would prefer to stick with a Cintiq, as I really do enjoy this device. And given I am more familiar with it already, I would prefer to stick with something I’d likely have good knowledge about already. :) )
Ah, thank you for reading if you actually made it this far! Taking a gander at this is greatly appreciated in any case! Hope you folks are having a great day! <3

If convenience is your biggest concern, the 13HD probably isn’t for you. I love mine but it’s a hassle to move around. Of course you need your computer, and then there’s the chord with HDMI, USB, power supply AND the connection to the tablet itself. nekro-led liked this
